    Roll Off Results

Sunday, May 17, 2009, 12:35 AM MST [General]

We're officially the 2008-09 Pioneer League Champions.  The roll-off is a whole lot different then regular league in terms of point scoring.  No points at all were taken and it was total team pins handicap for all three games combined.

First game we came out blazing!  We finished with a 1109 scratch (five person team with one being in the blind with a 160 posting for the blind... the guy had to see his brother graduate from college).  I had the biggest game with a 268.  Everything was getting into the pocket.  I felt so great and I could miss two boards left and two boards right and it would still hit flush and carry.   Needless to say, we won by 104 pins.  That gave us a lot of room to work with.

Then the second game came and down hill I went.  I started drinking some shots... to add insult to injury the lanes started breaking down FAST!!! as well.  I planned to move left, but that didn't work.  I finished with a 188.  We won by 10 pins.

Third game came around and still I couldn't find the pocket.  Everything came high and when I adjusted.. I over adjusted and it came in too light.  After all was said and done I should have just started to throw straight up and keep my previous mark.  It would have came in regardless.  I know it would have worked because I did have awhole lot of tilt/hand on my release.  I finished with a 176.  I had so much fun and it couldn't have gone any better.  We won the last game by 50 pins.  I ended up getting high game side pot for the 268.  Got me an extra 50 bucks.. sweet.  Each of us got an extra 50 bucks for winning the roll-off and I got back 120 for the season.  Not a bad night at all.

I made two goals this year... to average 200 for 90+ games and to help win the league championship.  I finished with a 201 average and we won league.  How sweet it is.   Too bad we didn't get crap for the championship like shirts or something to signify we won..  That's why our bowling committee sucks!

My summer league starts May 26.. that Tuesday.  Good luck to all in summer and state championships.

    Pioneer League 3-25-09

Thursday, March 26, 2009, 12:09 AM MST [General]

I felt really good going into tonight since I bowled good during the weekend.  During practice I found my shot, but it was a shot I usually use at the start of my third game.  Then I know it was going to be a long night.   Of course they laid down a really dry shot.  Here are my games.

    Game 1: 226

    Game 2: 185

    Game 3: 183

    Series: 594

Wow, I'm surprised I shot what I shot for the 2nd and 3rd game.  During the second game.. it started around the 3rd frame.  I got 2 splits in a row...then I moved a couple of boards left.  Got a strike then a split in the next frame..  I had to move 5 boards left.  I finally stuck out in the 10th to barely get 185.  The third game I had to move 2 more boards and try to loft it.  That didn't work and tried my spare ball.  That didn't work either.   DAMN IT I need to get a less agressive ball for these stupid lanes.   Oh well.  We went 9-13 for the week.  Good thing we were 21 points ahead of 2nd.  Hopefully we get some oil next week.

    Top Dawg Doubles

Sunday, March 22, 2009, 06:45 PM MST [General]

The today started good when I found out that the tourney was using last year's average. .. regardless if this year's average was higher.  So I went in with a 185 avg.  Oh yeah.  My partner went in with a 165 average.

The format was three game qualifying for top 16.  From then on it was match play one game.

I felt real good in practice and had a lot of room to start off.  We switched lanes every game like any other tourney.  Here are my qualifying scores.

                     ME               Partner

    Game 1:   236                 168

    Game 2:   213                 178

    Game 3:   236                 194

                    685                 540

There were 35 teams that showed up.  My friend bowled the last time and he said there were 50+ last time.  With our scores plus handicap, we ended up qualified 2nd overall.

In match play, we easily took care of the first match by 60 pins.  We had two pins more in handicap.  My partner shot 179.  I shot a 238.  It should have been 250+, but a ringering 10 in the 10th.  The second game is a whole different story.  We had to make up 80 pins in handicap.  We bowled against mother-son team and man she sucked at bowling.  But that handicap was a killer.  I think she had 98 pins handicap.  The son had a 165 avg. but shot a 234.   Nothing you can do there.  To make matters worst, our lanes were bone dry.  I couldn't get it across and had to loft it to get anything in the back end.  In the 9th frame I decided to use my spare ball just for kicks.  I struck out.  Unfortunately it was too late.  We lost by 53 pins.  I shot a mediocre 171.  My partner beat me with a 174.

It always sucks to lose, but all in all we did fairly well for the first time in this event.  Next time I'll have my ball that's drilled for these stupid dry lanes.

    Weird

Thursday, March 19, 2009, 04:06 PM MST [General]

I posted a blog two days ago and it didn't show up..  I hate that...then you have to do it all over again... Here's my second try..

Ok, I haven't posted for awhile because I've been lazy of course. I had a few goals this year... One was to get at least 3 700 series and get an average over 200 for an entire year.  So far I've gotten only one 700 (In city tourney last month) and I'm holding a 203 average.  So I'm fairly happy with my game right now.

Our team is doing well the 2nd half.  We ended up almost taking the first half, but all went down hill.  Our best bowler couldn't make it the roll-off because of work and other just didn't show up..(won't be on the team next year).  We went into the roll-off in first place, but literally 6 teams had a chance for first.. They were all within 7 points of first.  So we ended up taking 3rd place.  Our point system is as follows:

    Match-up Five Person team.

1 point for each match-up = 5 points total per game

2 points for total team per game

1 point for overall team series.

It equals out to 22 total points for each league night.

Last week we took 14 points with me shooting a 619 (181, 202, 236)  We were in 1st place by 7 points before the night started.

This week we started in 1st place by 17 pts!  Sweet...  We then kicked a$$ again.  We took 15 points this week with me getting a 627 (221, 192, 214).  I had a great shot, but couldn't get my mark in the second game.  I've started working out on a hard program... and I was SORE!  Couple of more weeks I should be fine.  The first two weeks are the hardest they say.  So, yeah.. I'll be posting till the season ends.

I'll be bowling in a doubles tourney this Sunday.  Wish me luck.

    Week 5 Pioneer League

Friday, October 3, 2008, 10:03 AM MST [General]

Last week was the first bowling night I've missed in 4 years due to work.  I tried and tried to get off, but something came up and I couldn't bowl.  It did feel wierd that I didn't bowl for 2 weeks, but maybe it'll help me rather than hurt me.  Tonight I felt good, got to the alley early and cleaned my ball up.   Here are my scores.

    Game 1:  262

    Game 2:  224

    Game 3:  188

    Total:        674

Overall a good night, but I did choke in the last 5 frames of the third game.   I had a spare in the first then had 4 in a row.   From there I fell apart going open, spare, open spare open.  oh well.  ttyl
